Steam locomotives were the most popular model by the end of the Second World War. The wagon-trailer carrying a steam locomotive fuel and water needed to feed the machine. In Brazil, these locomotives were given the nickname "Mary-smoke" because of the dense cloud of steam and soot expelled by your chimney.

On 6 April 1872, the Provincial Law No. 36, the Government set a group of citizens, including the Cel gentlemen. Luiz Manoel da Silva Leme, Cel. Francis of Assisi Valle Junior, Major Jacintho Manuel de Morais e Silva, Joaquim Firmino de Lima, Captain Francis of Assisi Valle, Francisco Leme da Silva and Emilio José Gomes da Rocha Leal, the construction of a narrow gauge railway line.
