Vatican City (AsiaNews) - The issue of Friday (23/01) Vatican newspaper published the letter the Pope sent the new cardinals who will create it on the 14th of February. Below is the full text of Francis of words, with which the Pope recalls that the cardinal is not a prize, be "cardinal means to bear witness of the Lord's Resurrection in the Diocese of Rome"
"Dear brother,
published today its appointment as Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church. That my greetings and my prayers come to you. Peco the Lord to be with you this new service, which is a helpdesk, support and special closeness to the person of the Pope and for the good of the Church.
And precisely for this service dimension is exercised, the cardinal is a vocation. The Lord, through the Church, calls you once again to serve; and you will do well to repeat heart in prayer the words that Jesus taught his disciples to be kept in humility. Say, 'We are unworthy servants', and it does not as a formula for good education but as truth after work 'when you have done all that was sent to you.' (Lk 17: 10).
Keep up with humility in the service is not easy when you consider the cardinal as a prize, as the culmination of a career, a dignity of power or high distinction. Now, your daily commitment to keep away from these considerations and, above all, remember to be Cardinal means to serve in the Diocese of Rome to witness to this our Lord's Resurrection and give it all to the blood, if necessary.
Much will be happy this your new vocation and, as good Christians, will party (because Christian and feature rejoice and celebrate know). Accept it with humility. Make, these festejamentos, do not imply the spirit of worldliness that intoxicates more than grappa fasting disoriented and separates the cross of Christ.
