TOWN OF JOHN: June Party - PART VII
JUNE 24 UP CELEBRATING THE BIRTHDAY OF THE TOWN OF JOHN SP AND FEAST OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST."

The pau-de-sebo is greased flagpole tallow (animal fat) that lends itself to a typical recreational activity from June Festivals. The game is to climb a tall mast high with the goal of achieving a premium placed on top of wood. It is also called Cockaigne Cockaigne or mast. This folkloric manifestation was brought by the Portuguese colonizers in northeast Brazil.

Originally customs of ancient Egypt, pau-de-sebo tradition dates back to the stone building poles, wooden obelisks called the pagan god Baal. It is more specifically the representation of a Phallus because Baal is worshiped mostly as the god of fertility. The poles are erected to thank him for his protection and for good crops, as well as to ask for favors.

This monument was eventually Christianized by the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages along with "Feast of St. John," Jerk Party or parties of popular saints, celebrations related to the pagan celebration of the summer solstice. The oldest obelisks were made from just one piece of stone (monoliths). One of the most famous obelisks is currently located in Vatican City in the Piazza San Pedro center, was brought directly from Heliopolis (Egyptian city) by Caligula.
At the center of the ovato tondo stands an Egyptian obelisk of red granite, 25.5 metres tall, supported on bronze lions and surmounted by the Chigi arms in bronze, in all 41 metres to the cross on its top.

The worshipers of Baal believe the spirit of the sun god Ra, dwells in the obelisk. In the Bible, the obelisk is displayed as columns or posts idols, as in this fragment:

"The sons of Israel did what was evil in YHWH and have forgotten the LORD their God,., And paid tribute to the Baals and the Asherah" (Judges 3:7)

You who came from afar
In an aircraft wheel
Affected everybody
causing sensation

I want to see you climb
In pau-de-sebo

Are you an athlete
And says it's champion
Which has medal as further
And gives jumping without hands

Are you up, up
Not for climbing
Seems to pound
It is hard to fall
