Big typhoons may collide off Honshu
BY TOMOHIRO OSAKI. OCT 23, 2013
Less than a week after being hit by the largest typhoon in a decade, Tokyo is bracing for another strong storm that will likely reach the area Saturday, and it may get merged with an even stronger approaching tempest.

Though less powerful than Typhoon Wipha, incoming tropical cyclone Francisco is rated as “strong,” the Meteorological Agency said. But on a possible collision course is Typhoon Lekima, considered “more fierce.”

Two typhoons are currently located in the Western Pacific. The most immediate threat is Typhoon Francisco, which is a slow moving typhoon located near the Daito Islands of Japan. The typhoon is likely to affect Okinawa, the Amami islands, Kyushu, Shikoku and southern Honshu with tropical storm force winds, possibly with typhoon gusts, and heavy rains.

Typhoon Lekima is currently located to the east of the northernmost Mariana Islands as a powerful Category 5 storm, though is not likely to maintain this intensity for much longer.
